Some of my OE folders are not opening for new incoming messages. I noticed
one, "Family," wasn't about a month ago, but now two more are not opening. Each has at least 8 sub-folders in it, and one has a great number of sub-folders. I compact my folders, off-line, daily. Any suggestions? I have XP Pro, SP2, IE 6, use OE, and run AVG daily, and AdAware, Spybot S&D every few days, and Penicillin about once a month, just as a habit. Have the MS firewall on, and use ZoneAlarm, as well, and rarely accept 'intrusions.' Thank you. |

Ohhh, okay...usually a folder opens when an email comes in that goes to one
of the sub-folders I pre-determined via Messages-Mail, et al. Then, the sub-folder is in bold. "PA Bear" wrote in message ... The folder doesn't open, the folder tree expands.

It is checked Bruce. And, some of my primary folders to not expand when a
new message arrives, as has always been the case in the years I've used OE. "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... The folder doesn't open, the folder tree expands. Tools | Options | General. You do have Go to the Inbox when opening OE checked?
If so, may I suggest a non-published possible fix. I had a folder with three subfolders that would always open expanded. It was not a situation of unread mail as these were folders that I would physically move read mail to. I lived with this for a year, or so. For an entirely different reason, I deleted Folders, dbx with OE closed, and not only did it fix my current problem, but that group of folders no longer opened expanded. Your problem is the opposite, but who knows??? But, you may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it. One down, one or more to go...
So you're using Message Rules to filter certain incoming mail to certain folders. Independent of whether the folders bold in Folder pane or not, do the messages end up in the appropriate folders? Yes, they end up in the correct folders, but I have to open main folders to
see if there is a new message in the sub-folder tree, and its a waste of time. This has never happened before now. "PA Bear" wrote in message ... One down, one or more to go... 1. Compact all folders (http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact).
2. Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application; disable or uninstall any anti-spam applications. 3. Create a new identity (File Identities Add new identity) and configure your mail and news accounts anew in it. NB: Do NOT name this identity "Main Identity". 4. Import messages from the old identity. Importing OE Data (all DBX files, including Folders.dbx) http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/how.htm#importOE5 5. Delete the old identity (File Identities Manage identities). 6. Use the new identity for a day or so and tell us if the behavior persists in it. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org Pappion wrote: Yes, they end up in the correct folders, but I have to open main folders to see if there is a new message in the sub-folder tree, and its a waste of time.
