I have started up my new computer, transferred all of my data from the old
one and just discovered that I cannot send mail with attachments. I am using XP Pro as opposed to XP Home before, but still OE6. Have tried various suggestions in the posts with no luck; Norton is set to NOT scan outgoing email, tried deleting and replacing Outbox .dbx file, created a new identity on OE with the same results. Will send text emails as long as there isn't an attachment with it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Do they sit in the Outbox? Any error message? Have you tried removing Norton
completely. It, and McAfee, are notorious for not working well with OE. I would suggest either Avast, (freeware), or NOD32, (not free). In the case of Avast, choose Custom Installation and under Resident Protection, uncheck: Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange. Yes, they just sit in the outbox. The error message is as follows... "A
time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Subject 'Fw: Note To Self', Account: 'Julie Mello', Server: 'sendmail.mello.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19". I have never had any trouble with Norton in the past, but I turned it off and tried to send again with still the same results. "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Do they sit in the Outbox? Any error message? Sure sounds like a problem with Norton to me. Some times just turning off
e-mail scanning is no enough and the program must be installed in custom mode and e-mail scanning refused when you get that option. Never the less, Norton has been screwing up OE for years, and yes, you can use it for a long time before a problem turns up. See this first: How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send and receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express: http://support.microsoft.com/default...14&Product=oex If nothing there helps, I would get rid of Norton completely. I wouldn't own, or work on a machine that used it. This machine came with a free trial of Norton, and I removed it before I even set up an e-mail account. New Info! It's definitely not Norton and it isn't even any of the other
aforementioned problems. Instead, it is a modem issue. When we got the new computer, we also got an external modem to combat the terrible dial-up conditions we have in our rural area and it has definitely helped. So, now I know that the internal modem will send attachments, but the external one won't. Any suggestions on how I might proceed now? Contact your ISP and make sure that the modem has been correctly associated
and registered with them. If it isn't you will have problems, and although this is an e-mail question, it isn't an OE issue. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Curly" wrote in message ... Your MTU settings was going to be my next suggestion, in fact. See:
Outlook or Outlook Express hangs after you send an e-mail message with an attachment: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315008 QP If You Connect by DSL, Cable Modem, or LAN on Windows XP NOTE: If the issue continues to occur, repeat the preceding steps, but type a different MTU value between 1,454 and 576. When you test additional MTU values, try 576 and then increase the number to 600. If setting the MTU value to 600 does not resolve the issue, increase the value by 100 until you reach 1,400. If the issue continues to occur, try 1,454 and then stop. When you are finished, if the issue is still not resolved, change the MTU value back to 576. /QP -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org Curly wrote: New Info! OE Tools Accounts Mail [account] Properties Advanced Break apart
messages larger than... (uncheck). If still no joy, Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File Identities Add new identity). To avoid such corruption in futu - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Break apart option was not checked. I tried a New Identity with two
different email accounts with the same results, no improvement. I always archive messages in created folders and am pretty good about maintaining the Deleted items. Can send text only messages fine. Disabled Norton, but still no help. "PA Bear" wrote: OE Tools Accounts Mail [account] Properties Advanced Break apart messages larger than... (uncheck).
