Briefly, motherboard died. I took the hard drive out and cloned it.
Replaced motherboard, wiped original drive and did a fresh install of XP Home. I copied the entire Outlook Express folder from the cloned drive to a temporary folder on the original drive. I used the import function, picked Outlook Express 6, Main Identity, pointed it to the temporary OE folder and did the import. There were a few extra mailboxes, like "horses.dbx". None of the extra mailboxes showed up except her Norton Anti-Spam folder. The Inbox, which is quite large, only has about 4 messages in it. The same goes for the Sent Items folder. On the new installation, if I go to D&S\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\AE0(mile long)....\Microsoft\Outlook Express, all the mailboxes are there. Why don't they show up in Outlook Express? I am no novice to this procedure. I have wiped and restored "lots" of computers (it's my trade) and have done the import thing over and over. This is the first time this has happened to me. I've tried the "OE Store Directory" option, and I've tried copying the dbx files directly. Nothing has made them show up so far. Any suggestions? -- --- Long live Fat32! --- |

Did you clear the Read Only attribute for all the dbx files? I assume also
that you included Folders.dbx in the backup? I don't know what went wrong, but you may be able to import them manually if need be. Yes, and yes.
Thanks for the quick reply! I looked at that link briefly and it appears I'd need to export some registry settings from the old install. I can't get the old install on the cloned drive to boot on account of the motherboard drivers incompatibility. But I'll keep plugging away. Thanks again. Try this approach for each dbx file. It uses the Desktop, but you can do it
from the folder the files are already in. In Windows Explorer, click on the dbx file for the missing folder and drag it to the Desktop. Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on your desktop. Open the new folder and then close OE. Go back to Windows Explorer and Click Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop to the OE store folder that you clicked on to reveal the .dbx files. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Menno Hershberger" wrote in message news:Xns9958846E64539butter@wefb973cbe498... Yes, and yes. Thanks for the quick reply!
