I recently had to handle my email from another ISP (west.cox.net), as
opposed to my usual (comcast.net). Set up my mailbox just as I had at my home location, and while I was able to receive my emails (via mail.comcast.net) the connection always failed when trying to Send email (via smtp.comcast.net). Of course, I was able to use the "internet" Comcast mail to get around the problem. I am positive that these server designations are correct. I'm also sure that email address and passwords were correct Am I missing something regarding OE email setup when using another ISP? Thanks in advance... Al Campagna |

All you may have to do to manage outgoing mail for comcast is use the outgoing server for cox with the cox username/pw.
Some isp's only allow outgoing mail to be sent with their server settings. ..winston "Al Campagna" anon@newsgroups wrote in message . .. : I recently had to handle my email from another ISP (west.cox.net), as : opposed to my usual (comcast.net). : Set up my mailbox just as I had at my home location, and while I was able : to receive my emails (via mail.comcast.net) the connection always failed : when trying to Send email (via smtp.comcast.net). : : Of course, I was able to use the "internet" Comcast mail to get around : the problem. : : I am positive that these server designations are correct. you have to be using the isp that you are trying to use their setting for.
you cannot send using comcast setting from cox or other way around. setup the account correctly for each and when you go to send you can select the account to send from. Seems relatively obvious or reread the part you snipped.

Yes Bruce, I'm back at my normal location.
I think N.Miller's suggestion will probably do the trick. I've often used the OutLook setup Help on Comcast... but was not aware of the "While Traveling" section. I'll bet that will do it. N. Miller,
Thanks for that link. I'll bet that will do it. I've often referred to the Comcast OE setup page, but never knew there was a "While Traveling" setup. Unfortunately, I'm back to my normal location, so I won't be able to test your suggestion... but I'm sure that's the problem. To access Comcast message submission serves ('smtp.comcast.net') from another ISP connection, follow these steps from the Comcast online help (did you know they had this?) http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/inde...k_Express17717 You can use those settings from within the Comcast network, as well, so you can set them up once, and forget about them. These settings have the advantage of encrypting the password during account log in; which is why Comcast offers them for the "Road Warrior". -- Norman ~Shine, bright morning light, ~now in the air the spring is coming. ~Sweet, blowing wind, ~singing down the hills and valleys. |
