In the past, if I made a mistake with someone's e-mail address, I used to get
a message like "I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the
following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it
didn't work out."

Nowadays, I never receive this when using Outlook Express 6.0, even though I
know a particular e-mail address is not valid, because when I send using a
web-based mail system, I get the above error message.

Any ideas? Can I configure OE to receive these messages?

That message comes from your ISP. Unless you are blocking them with Blocked
Senders, Message Rules, or a spam program, you should get them.

I have just checked: I have no blocked senders, no message rules, and no spam
filter. Any other ideas?

Not really. Perhaps someone else will have an idea.

Take a look at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, General. If the
e-mail address or Reply to address is wrong (the Reply to may be empty),
that will send the errors to the wrong address.

Another possibility is that your mail service (ISP) is doing spam
filtering and trapping those messages.
