Default send/receiving email

Hope someone can help me with this problem.
Under send/receiving email (I'm using Outlook Express), I have my option to
automatically check mail every three minutes. I notice that if I leave OE
running for example minimized, it does check for incoming mail but at some
point, it stops checking and freezes up. I notice in the lower right hand
status bar shows "connecting" but nothing happens. The only option I have
at that time is to do a control/alt/delete and end the program. Anyone have
an idea as to what I can do to resolve this issue?
I'm using XP Home SP, and Internet Explorer 6.0.29 SP2. TIA...RW

Try changing it to 10 minutes and see if you have the same issue.

Sorry for the double posting, didn't realize that I had done it.
Steve and Mickey, thanks for the suggestions, never thought of it but you
both are probably right. I'll give it a try...RW
