In Outlook Express I can send e-mails, but see none coming in,
including those I have sent to myself to test the system. I have
re-input the smtp address 'smtp.freeserve.co.uk" and also tried
substituting that with 'smtp.orangehome.co.uk'
In both cases 'send and receive' produces 'Authorising' and then a
Log-on Dialogue box asks for 'Please enter your user name and
password for the server' . Entering them achieves nothing.

Tried everything short of messing with registry. A 'system restore'
seems to have done the trick. Will it be a permanent solution I
wonder?

Well, Frank, it was not permanent - I think it was perhaps a
coincidence. Now getting the log on box all the time, Have also ben
having connections problems which the ISP is said to be working on.
This makes raising links difficult.

What anti-virus are you using?

I was using AVG tried disabling the e-mail scanner but it kept coming
back at me. Uninstalled AVG but no difference.
Are you using an anti-spam program?

Was using Mailwasher but that is uninstalled now.

Michael Santovec suggested:-
"In some
cases it might be necessary to set up a new identity in OE and create
the mail account there.*
I suppose that means File Identities New Identity.....but what then
please?
