Default DL headers only in OE??

For mail, you can download the headers for IMAP or HTTP (Hotmail/MSN).
But for POP3, it's all or none of the message in OE.

Check with your mail service to see if they offer IMAP access. Some do,
most just offer POP3.

With many ISPs offer a web mail interface to look at your server mail
box to decide if you want the messages and, if desired, delete them
without downloading.

Or you may be able to use Telnet if they don't offer a web mail
interface. You can find these Telnet instructions at
http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...pop3telnet.htm

Or you might also be able to use http://mail2web.com or
http://www.mailstart.com for this function (if your ISP allows outside
access to their POP3 mail server). Or there are some shareware programs
that let you look at messages on the server.

when using dialup at the lake. i understood from OE help it would

DL = Delete? onbox = Inbox?

Are you referring to this from Help? It is only for newsgroups. If
you
delete message headers in an OE folder, you delete the message as
well, and
if you didn't, you wouldn't be able to find it anyhow.

To delete a newsgroup message

Newsgroup messages are stored on a news server. In order for them to
be
available for other people to read, they cannot be deleted from the
server.
However, you can delete newsgroup messages or headers that have been
downloaded to your computer.

1.. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2.. On the Maintenance tab, click Clean Up Now.
3.. Click Browse, and select either a news server or a specific
newsgroup,
and then click OK.
4.. To delete message bodies only for the selected item, click
Remove
Messages.
-or-

To delete headers and messages for the selected item, click Delete.

News items deleted in this manner are permanently removed from your
computer.

Which server type?

then you can choose to DL the whold message or not?

FYI For POP3 you can't really get headers only in OE.
There is a way which headers only for POP3 could be implemented
provided the server supported the TOP command but that is not always
available. However, it is thought that OE does make use of that command
in order to support a rule involving size, so if your server is POP3
you might want to experiment with rules and trace your results.
