When deleting email messages on my laptop, they do not delete from my server.
I'm using Windows XP SP2. I know there should be a setting in OE (there was in the previous versions of IE) to delete messages from server when deleted locally, but that option (for some reason), is not available to me in IE 6.0. Can anyone help? It's driving me nuts because I have to go into my Mindspring account to manually delete messages. Thanks! |

![]() Hi, Steve. Thanks for the response. When I double checked my settings in OE, I realized there is an option to delete from server when deleted locally. I had that option checked, but that's where the problem is coming in. Even though that box is checked, messages are NOT being deleted from the server when deleted locally. Did you notice that the option says when deleted from the DELETED ITEMS
folder. You must delete the message from the Inbox, or whatever folder first. Then go the Deleted Items folder and delete it there a second time. Then do a Send and Receive. Only at that point does OE delete it from the server. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "isolde" wrote in message ... Hi, Steve. Thanks for the response. It's a POP account.

You have still not identified whether you are using an IMAP account, or a POP3 account. All email is *not* the same, and the best help comes when the helpers know exactly what you have. Steve (mac) assumes you are using POP3 email because probably 80% of Internet users have POP3 accounts. I am assuming that you have IMAP email because your description sounds more like the behavior of IMAP than POP3. So, which is it? -- Norman ~Shine, bright morning light, ~now in the air the spring is coming. ~Sweet, blowing wind, ~singing down the hills and valleys. |

Do you have any reason to leave a copy of messages on the server at all? If
not: Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced. At the bottom under Delivery, uncheck /all/ boxes. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "isolde" wrote in message ... I am having the same problem. I set the account up as Pop3. Under the
advanced tab in properties, none of the 3 check boxes in the delivery section are checked. I even tried checking the 'Remove from server when delted from Deleted Items' box than deleted the item for the deleted items folder, did a send/recv and the email is still on the server. Do the messages get downloaded more than once?

I don't believe so.
I was just testing things out and I configured Thunderbird to check the same account and it did not download any emails til I mailed a new one. How ever, when I log into the web all emails are still there, including the new one Eric "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Do the messages get downloaded more than once? -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Eric" wrote in message ...
