Default OE Not Responding

A couple weeks ago OE stopped responding. The initial screen would come up
but whenever I clicked on anything the information bar at the top would say
"Not Responding". Also, when I look at the Windows Task Manager it shows 2
copies of OE running, both of which say "Not Responding". When I end one of
the tasks both go away. When I look under the applications tab it shows
MSIMN.EXE consuming between 97 and 99 % of the cycles. I have spend a lot of
time Looking at McAfee, thinking that it might be the culprit. However, I
didn't find anything there that resembled my problem.

Has anyone experienced this problem or know how it can be resolved?
I'm running Windows 2002 5.1 home edition SP2 and Internet Explorer 7.0.
Thanks

Default OE Not Responding

Assuming the machine's fully patched at Windows Update:

1. Start he http://www.insideoe.com/problems/errors.htm#crash

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown
your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

2. For safety's sake, run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including
posting your hijackthis log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
