Default OE6 and Windows Desktop Search

I have OE6, IE7, and just installed Windows Desktop Search. Desktop
Search does not find OE email. Indexing is complete and the Indexing
includes the MS OE "Main Identity." I can't find any documentation, FAQ,
etc which addresses this issue. Am I missing something obvious? I hope
so. Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I can tell, from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/des.../features.mspx

It only works for Outlook and not Outlook Express.

E-mail Integration
Windows Desktop Search indexes Outlook e-mail on both Exchange servers
and PST files. In addition, your locally stored Lotus Notes e-mail will be
indexed by WDS when the Lotus Notes add-in is installed.

Bruce,

I know I read somewhere that Desktop Search is suppose to work with OE.
All I can find now is this link on Desktop search
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...dtstshoot.mspx

which, about halfway down, talks about a troubleshooting an Outlook
Express problem(unfortunately not mine). Also, as I mentioned, Desktop
Search itself gives Outlook Express Main Identity as one of the items
included in the indexing. What is that, just a tease? You may, in fact,
be correct, of course. It would nice to have something definitive.

Bruce,

I looked at the forum which you suggested. Some posters there complain
that questions do not get responses or answers. It does not appear to
be a very active site. I did find some references to problems similar to
mine. There are some suggestions that the problem may be due to
anti-virus or anti-spam conflicts (I use Norton and Trend Micro). The
only remedy I found, which supposedly was suggested by Microsoft, was to
switch to Google Desktop Search. I will try it.

Norton, (and McAfee), programs are not compatible with OE. May I assume you
use Trend Micro for spam and are not running two AVs at the same time?
Unfortunately, OE doesn't like anti-spam programs either.

I can't say if Norton is responsible for your current problem as your post
is the first one I have seen here about Windows Desktop Search. If I were
you, I would get rid of Norton. Even if it doesn't solve this problem, you
will be glad you did down the road.

I would suggest either Avast, (freeware), or NOD32, (not free).

In the case of Avast, choose Custom Installation and under Resident
Protection, uncheck: Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange.

Norton, and McAfee, products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't
know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them.

Avast:

NOD32:

To remove Norton completely:

Right click on the magnifying glass icon in the System Tray. Click on
"Windows Desktop Search Options". What is listed under "Included
Locations"?
My copy has, "Documents and Settings", "Microsoft Outlook Expres:
Identity
D", and "Microsoft Outlook Express: Identity F".

I have Documents and Settings, Microsoft Outlook Express Main Identity,
My Documents... When I go to Edit Identities, Main Identity is the only
one listed. I also have v3.01. Does a shortcut for OE have to be on the
desktop in order for it to be searched or indexed?
