Default Freezing OE

When I click on a link in an email, it takes IE ages to open and until it
does, my OE is frozen. This didn't used to happen. I don't know if it began
when I changed from 2KPro to XP. Any ideas...?

If you manually start IE does it take about as long to open?

If IE is already open, does the link open faster?

If the answers to the above are both yes, then you need to look at IE
performance issues.

Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with IE6/7
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...plorer.general

You can also get to the Internet Explorer newsgroups via this web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.mspx
There select Internet Explorer

1. [Control Panel Add/Remove Programs ] Set Program Access and Defaults
Configuration that's already checked Browser: Select "Internet Explorer"
here.

If no joy, see:

2b. Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to Internet

Have you done a defrag since you updated to XP ? Upgrading to newer version
of the operating system has a habit of fragmenting hd's all to hell and
sometimes even requiring adding RAM.

Default Freezing OE

Hello. The same thing happened to me last week (with Firefox), and now
Outlook Express 6 is no longer working, period. My ISP switched me over to
Outlook (haven't ever used) and suggested I could buy another Outlook
Express. It came bundled with Windows XP so am not sure how to, or even if I
want to. If anyone out there has ideas, count me in! (I'm not great with
technical details.)

You should start your own new thread. However, you can't buy OE. You already
have it.

First:

Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components. Id
Outlook Express is not checked, check it.

If need be, copy this:

c:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe

Start | Run and Paste it in | OK.

Now go to the Control Panel | Set Program Access and Defaults and set OE as
default and then you should have the shortcut.

If it still does not work, Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties. Make sure
all information is correct under every tab.

Make OE the default e-mail client:

If you have MS Outlook installed, also see:

Default Freezing OE

A few clarifying points:
1. I have IE 6 and OE 6 and Windows XP Pro.
2. I regularly defrag and regularly delete IE files and cookies. My
temporary Internet files are limited to only 98MB.
3. IE opens from its icon in about 20 seconds; IE takes a full minute to
open from a link in an email in OE.
4. If IE is already open, clicking on a link in an email in OE opens a new
IE window which takes about a minute to open.
5. Clicking on a link in an email in OE freezes OE until the IE window opens
(about one minute).

I wouldn't mind IE taking so long to open if it didn't freeze my OE. This is
a new problem which I did not have before upgrading from 2KPro.
