Default MSIEv.6 toobar mail menu

Hello, I have noticed in the last year the Mail Toolbar menu on MSIEv.6 is
not fully functional. I can still Read Mail and News because it launches
MSOEv.6; but I cannot start a New Message, send a Link, or Send Page from
MSIE browser. It is simply being blocked. why? Is there a hotfix?

Also, the one time freedom there is now an online email harvester for most
"content" on Internet like newspapers and magazines etc. All these companies
do with your email address is send spam.

You have IE7 installed, don't you?
Several of those functions are now on the Page icon.

Hi Frank,
No, I have not upgraded to MSIE7 yet. Is this the problem? I also thought it
was still a beta. Will it work with win98? When you say the Page Icon, are
you referring to the small pop up that allows ~four selections of which one
is email. This only comes up with pictures. I did not use it much.

Yesterday I tried to send an article to someone from NYT. The NYT wanted me
register email address etc. There was time early on the Internet that people
would do that, but not nowadays. I tried to send a link to this article and
no go. Then I copy & pasted the link in MSOEv.6 and still no go. I finally
used a webmail and copy & pasted it and it went. It is proprietary material
but I only referenced the link. This use to work almost seamlessly, now....

The final version of IE7 has been out for some time now, but it's not
available for Win98. You need XP or newer.

For your problem with mail button in IE, see:
OLEXP: "Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work with Outlook Express
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098

If that doesn't help, then also see:
Problems Using Outlook Express and Prodigy Version 5 Software
(Send Page, Send Link, New Mail Message from IE)
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=248005
Although the article mentions Prodigy software, the problem is not
unique to that software.

You mentioned "Then I copy & pasted the link in MSOEv.6 and still no
go". What exactly happened? Did you start a message in OE, then do a
copy/paste from the IE address line into the OE message body?

Unfortunately, I am not that wealthy to go out and buy a new machine. You
may have touched on the problem of OLE and ActiveX for all windows. I have
my browser set with custom security settings. The answer to your last
question is yes.

Would the check box on ToolsInternet OptionsPrograms, at bottom, "Internet
Explore should check to see if it is the default browser"? I do use other
browsers from time to time.

I checked the registry for: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Outlook
Express
In this position there are some more subdirectories, three exactly.
level. envelope, protocols, shell
envelope. CLSID, CurVer
protocols. mailto
DefaultIcon
Shell
open
command. "C:\PROGRAM
FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" /mailurl:%1
Shell.
open
command. "C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK
EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE"
It is not exactly how the writer describes.
The DLLpath is at level OE in first string. C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK
EXPRESS\MSOE.DLL

That setting would apply in going from a link in your mail program to
your browser. So if you receive an e-mail in Outlook Express with a
link and click the link, your default browser will open it.

Your issue is going in the reverse direction from IE to your mail
program. And for that, you default mail program comes into play.

ok.
Sometimes I use other browser technologies like FireFox 2.0 etc..Could this
be the check box in IEv.6 that asks "should IE check to see if it is still
the default..."? This is in ToolsInternet Optionsprograms tab, at bottom
of the dialogue box.
