Default Transferring .dbx file from one OE6 to Another

A friend has lost two folders in OE6. One is of emails he sent me and the
other is emails I have sent to him. I have the exact same folders on my
machine i.e. emails I have sent him and emails I have received from him.
We want to install these two folders on his machine to replace the lost ones
but cannot get OE to recognise them. We have tried the following:

1) Copy the two .dbx files into the OE store. They were not picked up by
OE.

2) Create new folders with the same name in OE, then shut it down, copy the
folders into the OE store and restart. Again the folders were not picked
up, at least they were but not the contents.

3) File/Import/Messages. In the wizard we selected OE6 and Stored
Folder. Then navigated to the folder. Message comes up that files either
don't exist or are being used by another application. Varied this method
by creating an account as on the original machine but the result was the
same.

I did also wonder about exporting as Outlook and importing into Outlook
Express but every time I try to export it crashes with a message that the
export could not be performed due to an error initialising mapi (whatever
that is).

Am now banging head on brick wall. Can any kind person help please.
