Did you recently install IE7?

I am using Windows XP home with SP2. I installed IE7 as soon as MS released
it in Windows update.
The problems I am having however did not start with the installation of IE7.
Things worked fine for months then all of a sudden I started getting the
error msgs described previously began to appear. I have done nothing other
than keep existing software updated, nothing new.

Is 904942 installed? (It'd be listed in Add/Remove Programs if the Show
Updates box is checked.)

Authentication fails when you use Outlook or Outlook Express to try to log
on to a HTTP-based mail server if you use Internet Explorer version 7.0

Yes, 904942 was installed on 1/19/2007. I use Windows Update and accept all
recommended updates.

Then most likely it's a temporary problem/issue on MSN/Hotmail's end and
that it will automagically clear up soon.

A few other things to try in the meantime:

= IE Tools Internet Options Privacy Sites type in

hotmail.com [and]
live.com

and Allow Cookies for each domain, in turn.

= Try the account in a new identity (OE File Identities Add new
identity).
