Norton or ZA could be the problem. Neither is really liked by OE. As far as
turning off e-mail scanning, it may be necessary for you to remove Norton &
reinstall it in custom mode and opt out of e-mail scanning when you see the
option. Sometimes just unchecking it is not enough. It wouldn't hurt to get
rid of Norton all together though. I would never even consider using it with
OE.

Hi Pa Bear:

I do have Platinum and HiSpeed 3G account? and I just upgraded to DSL, but
this started long before DSL.
Secondly, I had the same problem when I was using Free AVG. If I remove
ZoneAlarm & Norton what happens to my protection when I'm on the net? and
also when I am upgrading them with new updates?
Should I take out one at a time? and which one first?
I await your reply.

Norton (AntiVirus): You needn't uninstall NAV, just disable it's Email
Protection. It in fact provides no /additional/ protection and even
Symantec says it's not necessary:

QP
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

ZA: Assuming you're running ZA Free and that you do NOT have Norton Internet
Security of Norton 360 installed, you can (1) disable or uninstall ZA Free,
(2) enable the Windows Firewall and then (3) see if things improve.
