I have been retrieving webmail from comcast.net for about a year. Now when I
try to retrieve it I get the error message can't find mail.comcast.net server. I called comcast and they said everything was alright at their end. Does anyone know what might be wrong and what I can do to correct it? I am using XP sp2 and IE 7, and OE 6. Ol' Bob |

Hey, I finally got it fixed and OE is working again. I found a place where my
firewall COMODO had it blocked. Thanks for all of the help from everyone that sent me suggestions. Post the complete error message.
General OE Caveats: - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is automatically compacting your message store. - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org Ol'''' Bob wrote: I have been retrieving webmail from comcast.net for about a year. Troubleshooting error messages that you receive when you are using OL and OE
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514 Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary: QP Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. /QP http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org Ol'''' Bob wrote: Here is the complete error message The host 'mail.comcast.net' could not be found. Also exclude EML files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
