Default OE6 fails to display e-mails

Problem: OE6 fails to open e-mails in all folders: Inbox, Outbox, Sent,
Drafts. Only header information displayed: To, From, Subject , date. All
other functions appear to work normally, apart from total failure to access
e-mail message bodies. e-mails can download and be forwarded but forwarded
e-mails lack the message body. Repeated reboot attempts fail to resolve this
problem.

Several possible causes and therefore several possible fixes:
1. Go to Start | Run and type
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
and press Enter
If this doesn't work carry out step 6 and then repeat this step.
2. Go to Tools | Options | Read | Fonts and set Western (ISO) as the
default.
3. Clear Temporary Internet Files and the Temp folder.
4. Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus.
5. Someone else reported that re-installing OE using the last method in
this article fixed the problem:
How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP

Method 2 works on earlier versions of Windows.
6. Eliminate any scumware.

Default OE6 fails to display e-mails

You mention anti-virus software; is it possible that interaction with Windows
Live OneCare could cause the problem with OE6? I'm also experiencing problems
with OneCa it displays a red status prompting me to turn on virus and
spyware monitoring. When trying to turn it on, an error message stating
"Cannot change virus and spyware protection settings at this time" pops up.

I don't see where I mentioned anto-virus software and all I know about
OneCare is that others don't consider it very good.

Durn. And I read my (canned) reply three (3) times and missed it.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

Default OE6 fails to display e-mails

I ran the regsvr32 inetcomm.dll command and got a "DllRegisterServer
inetcomm.dll succeeded" message but no change; still the bottom pane will not
load the e-mail message body in any folder. This is a refurbished newly
reformatted computer that had only been in service for a few weeks malware
and viruses shouldn't be an issue but I ran Windows Live OneCare scan anyway
and it couldn't find anything. The computer is running extremely slow and its
XP OS is probably struggling with the 128MB memory and 1300MHz processor and
the OE6 decides to hang now when an e-mail need to be opened although for the
first couple weeks of operation it was fine.

A 1.3 GHz is plenty, but 128 MB of RAM really isn't enoigh for WinXP to
perform decently.

Please clarify if this symptom occurs only with the Preview pane.
E.g. what do you see if you open the message in its own window?
(Use Ctrl-o for example.)

If the Preview pane is the cause you should try making changes to your
Layout... (Alt-V,L). In addition you could try dragging on the various dividers
to change the size of panes you leave showing.

(I just noticed the "forwarded e-mails lack the message body" symptom.)
Verify that there is something there to show, e.g. using Message Source
(Alt-Enter,Ctrl-Tab, Alt-M or Ctrl-F3). Also, the description is slightly
ambiguous, e.g., if the E-mails are getting forwarded as attachments.
In fact, using that command would give you another interesting test:
use Forward as Attachment (Alt-M,d); then drag the attachment
to an open IE window and see if the E-mail's message body is still missing.

You ask some good questions. Yes there ARE messages really there Ctrl-F3 pops
them open in their own window in the raw ASCII but if you try to open the
mails in their own window either in HTML or text the OE6 application hangs
along with the preview pane view.
