Your data should survive a reinstall. But you may have to import it
after the reinstall. In any case, it's a good idea to backup any data
that you consider of value, especially before a reinstall.

That said, a reinstall is rarely necessary to fix problems and often
won't help, since problems are often caused by data corruption or
registry errors.

It would be best to describe the problem that you are having and see if
we can suggest a fix. Be sure to include
- your version of Windows
- the full text of any error messages
- what you are doing when the error occurs
- if you installed, uninstalled or updated any hardware of software
around the time that the problem started.

Thanks Michael
Can't belive this! Havn't used outlook for a couple of weeks because of
'problem' Went to use it this morning to get info for you and it's working
perfectly, so can't understand what was wrong - For info, the message before
was (not exact words) - 'unknown error has occurred and reinstall is
necessary'.
Many thanks anyway for your prompt help

If it happens again, note the Exact error message.

I don't know of any OE messages that say "reinstall is necessary". Some
may say "may not be installed properly", but even in those cases, a
reinstall is rarely useful.
