OE6 is fine in that it receives email. It won't SEND email even though my
provider (verizon) has gone through the settings twice. I downloaded mozilla thunderbird - still won't send email. Any clues? Thanx |

Per my ISP, my other PC (in a different state) is using a different ISP and
the problem is the port assignment by the other ISP for outgoing mail server. "JayKay" wrote in message news:FyNNi.2335$Cd7.1366@trnddc03... OE6 is fine in that it receives email. The full text of the error message would be helpful. That includes the
server name, server type, port number, socket error code, SSL, etc. For best results, copy/paste the error message rather than retyping it. You should be able to highlight the message text in the error window (hold down the left mouse button while dragging the mouse over the text). Then press Ctrl-C (hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the C key) to copy the highlighted text to the Windows clipboard. You can then paste that text into the problem description using the Ctrl-V key combination. I have a send email problem that gives me a pop box that says there is an
error and read it below, but the box is empty. NO text. I send an email, I click on send/receive to watch the progress, when the green bar reaches the end I get an error message. Then it tries to send the message again, again an error message, but NO text to tell me what the error is. I found out about this when a friend said he received 23 emails in a row, all the same. So I tried forwarding one to myself. Same thing, sends, ends, says I have an error that is not there, starts to send again etc. Meanwhile I GET the email that it says it could not send. Then I get it again. So I go to the outbox, highlight the email and delete it. thus stops OE from resending it. Then I go to my sentbox and the messages I just got are NOT in my sentbox! Any ideas? This just started happening 2 days ago. I have run all different spyware programs with no change. AVG says I have no virus. I just tried system restore back to 9/20/07 but that did not help. Please start your own thread in the future.
Do the following for the Outbox, and if the problem persists, repeat for Sent Items after you move any messages you wish to save to a local folder you create. Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Outbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE. General precautions for Outlook Express: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "aufever" wrote in message ...
