Until recently a link inserted in a message appeared in blue and clicking it
opened it. Now links are appearing in purple and clicking them has no effect. I have to copy and paste them into a browser to open. I've googled this and followed many suggestions* - without success. Is there a tried and tested solution? TIA RoS * amongst others, I've tried; resetting IE6 as default; running Registry Mechanic and other reg fix apps; re-installing java going to 'start', 'run' and typing in 'regsvr32 urlmon.dll' etc as recommended on several sites. |

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut) and select it. Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version. Select 'open'. Click Edit. "Application used to perform this action" should read: "C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.) DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have: #1: "%1",,-1,0,,,, #2 IExplore #3 (blank) #4 WWW_OpenURL URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same. Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE. If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type regsvr32 urlmon.dll -- Frank Saunders MS-MVP IE,OE/WM www.fjsmjs.com Do not send email |

Whether a link is blue or purple depends on whether or not YOU have
recently visited that link. Blue means no, purple means yes. No, these are new, unvisited sites which previously would have opened on
clicking them. Now they do not. IE is, and as far as I can see, always has been the default browser even though I've 'reset' it as I described in my initial post. Regards, RoS |
