I have 4 email addresses. On any of them the last 3 emails will not come in,
no matter how long I wait for the server to receive them.
Sending is no problem.
This is only a problem on my laptop, my PC receives and sends - no problems.
Please can you help?

Default Emails fail to be received

Go to your mail server's Website and read them and delete them there. Then,
heed these helpful hints for OE.

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

And backup often.

If they did not download, then they are on the server. Do you know for sure
that there are messages that are not downloaded? What is telling you this?

Default Emails fail to be received

If the messages don't appear on the server, the OE can't download them.

Sounds like the desktop is downloading the messages first, then deleting
them so there is nothing for the laptop to download.

You can have all users/PCs download all message from a POP3 mail server
by selecting Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Advanced, Leave a copy
of messages on the server in all users/PCs. One or more of the
users/PCs should be set to delete messages from the server after a few
days or else the server mail account will eventually fill.

If you still have problems, you may want to try recording a pop3.log
which will show more details about incoming mail.

To create an POP3.log In OE5+, go to Tools, Options, Maintenance,
Troubleshooting and check the Mail box.
You may need to close OE after doing the send/receive for the log to get
written to disk.
The log will be in the Store Folder which is listed in Tools, Options,
Maintenance, Store Folder.

Default Emails fail to be received

After downloading all messages using my PC I get this result on my laptop
when I attempt send and receive:
"Checking for new messages on @tuflow gofree@...
Receiving message 1 of 3

Then it just stops like this after the first message appears to have been
received.
I have checked the server and I have no messages on it at all. My PC sends
and receives in OE on the same address, no problem.
I have removed and re-installed OE, no different.
I am lost on this.

Default Emails fail to be received

Do you have this set up? If not, try it and send about 5 test messages with
your PC and then check the laptop.

If both computers are using the same e-mail address, on both machines:

Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced - Check: Leave a copy of
messages on the server.

On one machine, check to Delete messages after X days to assure the server
does not get clogged up.

Tried your idea Bruce, made no difference. The same 3 emails that will not
receive appear in all of the email accounts. Could this be a software
problem in OE?
Any further ideas please?

They must be some kind of ghost messages. Obviously, OE cannot be
downloading messages if there are none on the server to download.

Anyone else got an idea?

Default Emails fail to be received

You mention that the server shows no messages when OE says it is trying
to download something.

Assuming that you are looking at the right server account, that would
mean that some program between the PC and OE is the source of the
problem messages. That would be your anti-virus program being set to
scan e-mail as it download or an anti-spam program.
