I had a problem with viruses and reinstalled my whole system, XP, from the
manufacturers cds. I had a copy of the email folders and dragged them into th relevant folder on the new setup. The dbx files are all visible as if they were restored perfectly, however, the folders, or their contents, cannot be sen on OE. I have a number of important emails which I need. Please can you help me recover them? |

If you included Folders.dbx in the backup, all you need to do is put the
backup on your HDD, remove the Read Only attribute, open OE and File | Import | Messages and point to where you saved them. Reference. Thanks for your help.
I put all the files in a folder on desktop. Changed the attribute of all files to "A" off "read only". Opened OE and imported all folders for the files. I received only the sent items folder with all "sent" emails in them, however, none of the received femail folders. The dbx folders for all OE folders are in the correct place but their contents are not vivible in OE- excepy "sent items". What am I missing? The "backup" was a copy of the dbx folders using Iomega instant backup and they are not bak files. I am not sure what you mean by "A" off "read only". I assume you removed the
Read Only attribute? I am not familiar with the backup program you are using. You can try getting them in manually. Rename any files on the Desktop that have corresponding folders already in OE. You already have an Inbox, so name the Inbox.dbx file on the Desktop to Old Inbox.dbx. Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on the Desktop. (Old Inbox). Open the new folder and then close OE. Go to Windows Explorer and locate the Message Store folder for your OE identity, but don't open it. Click on the Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop in the right hand pane to the OE store folder in the left pane. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Big Geoff" wrote in message ... Thanks for your help. I put all the files in a folder on desktop.
