Cannot open Inbox - need to restart again and again

Default Cannot open Inbox - need to restart again and again

Almost every time I try to open my Inbox it does not show. I don't have
the same problem when I go to Sent Items. Sometimes when I go back to
Inbox I can then view the messages but usually I have to restart the
computer several times before I can view my inbox!

How do I solve this? Is it possible to reinstall OE6 without risking
losing all my contacts and the contents in Inbox and Sent Items. Is it
even possible to reinstall OE6?!?

I use Win98. Processor 2,4Gh, RAM 512MB.

Create two new folders under Local Folders. Call them My Inbox and My
Sent Items or something similar. Move all the messages in both your
Inbox and Sent Items to these newly created folders. Do not store
messages in any of the default folders such as Inbox, Sent Items,
Deleted Items or Drafts.

Once you've done that, click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder
tree. File/Work Offline. File/Folders/Compact all folders. It may take
awhile but do NOTHING until it's finished and don't have anything open
except Outlook Express.

I would suggest he do the move of the messages to the new folders, but then
he needs to close OE and physically delete the inbox.dbx file so OE will
make a new clean one.

Since he's using Win98 he also needs to do points 2 and 3 he

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
