Default Send/Recieve causes hang-up

I have a dial-up connection which s set up so that when I open outlook
express my dial-up window pops up. The the last little while that doesnt
happen. After opening OE no window pops-up. When clicking the send/reciave
button the entire app hangs up. Yesterday i discovered a some spyware/adware
infections which i have removed. I installed win xp sp2 and ms anti-spyware
and made sure there were no more infections. It seemed to be working fine
again but a couple hours later the same symptom reoccured. After a reboot
everything is fine again however after a couple of hours the same hang-up
reoccurs forcing a reboot. Could the spyware/adware have caused some sort of
damage and if so how can i reapir it?

Default Send/Recieve causes hang-up

1. Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File
Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages from
the old Identity before deleting it (File Identities Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

2. The problem may be due to "spyware" still on the machine.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
