Default Unwanted Autosubscribe in O.E.6.0.

I've used Outlook Express as my newsreader for years and always found it
relatively easy to understand. Now all of a sudden it automatically
subscribes me to every newsgroup I read. I have no idea when it started
doing this, but I'm pretty sure it didn't do it before. I don't use it
very often so I was surprised to hit the subscribe tab and see thirty or
so groups that I know I didn't deliberately pick. I'm the only user and
I checked every option and setting I can find. Nothing says anything
about auto subscribe. I'm running WinXP Pro and OE 6.0. Any solutions or
Advice? Yes I'm using Firefox and Thunderbird but I prefer OE strictly
for newsgroups. TIA.

Check the Registry to see if there is a Subscribe to newsgroup key under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{*GUID*}\Software\Mic rosoft\Outlook
Express\5.0\Dont Show Dialogs

Thanks for your input. I checked the Registry in that location. The only
relevant key is:
(Name)AskSubscribe----(Type)REG_DWORD------(Data)0x00000006(6)
Registry editing is not my strong suit so I'm not sure what that tells
me. I don't touch the Reg. unless I know exactly what to do. If it were
an MRU list I assume it means keep last 6 items. There are over twenty
in the subscribed tab. This is more of an annoyance than a problem, I
just hate it when a well behaved program starts acting screwy for no
known reason.

All of the keys under Dont Show Dialogs mean that those Dialog boxes will
not show.
Export the AskSubscribe key, then delete the key from the Registry.
You can always import the key or when that dialog box appears, check do not
show again.
