Default How does OE6 do second level sorting?

Does anyone out there know how OE6 sorts stored mail after the first
selection? In other words, I have sent many dozens of email messages to
particular individuals, such as my engineer, over a long period of time. If
I want to find a particular message from the past I can sort by the "To"
column then look for his name. The problem is that there are still so many
messages to him that it takes a very long time to find any particular one
because within the group by each name they all appear to be in random order!
Is there a way to sort by a second level such as name then within that date?

Thanks,

Use the "Find" function button and type keys in both fields?

(I am assuming you are using the column sort)

I've never found much luck in trying to sort via the columns, basically it's
just date order, last first and if I need anything more specific use find.
This is especially true in sent items where there are lots of news posts as
well as emails and the listing whatever you do is quite large.

I'm not sure exactly how it works. Try clicking on the date column header
to sort by date and then click on the Sender column and see if it sorts by
sender and then by date. I think it works that way.

Or use Edit | Find as others suggested.

Thanks but I tried all that first. I even tried holding the CTRL key while
selecting other columns! That would be a natural but it does not work
either.

OE doesn't officially support more than the primary sort field.

I find that when I sort on From, they are then in date order within
From. But that may just be luck. I normally sort on the date, or
perhaps its because that's the order the messages were added to the
folder. Many have reported similar experiences while some have fond
that it doesn't sort on the date with From.

In View, Current View, make sure that you have Not selected Group
messages by conversion for the mail folder. For mail folders that
groups by Subject and will confuse the sort order you are attempting.

I think you nailed it here with the "...Not selected Group messages by
conversion for the mail folder." except for some little flaws. It only seems
to work within the Inbox and its subfolders but does not seem to work in the
Sent mail folder and its subfolders. Even when it seems at first to be right
for some names other names seem to have their dates all over the place!
Unchecking the option for grouping messages does, however, now screw up the
way I like Help Forum messages grouped! I guess there is no winning with
Microsoft! OE (Windows?) still needs a lot of work. The techies should hire
some common sense people off the street to sit next to them when they
develop this stuff! ) Anyway, thanks a lot for the help! -DWK )
