Cannot open .gif files in OE, no problem .jpg files however. I get this
error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in Folder Option Control Panel." Have no problem if I want to copy the file to my picture folder, but would like to see what it is before I copy it. I'm using WinXP SP2, IE7 and OE6, it's not a big problem but quite annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Grandma Dogs have owners-- Cats have staff!!! |

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Find and choose a program that works and then check the box: Always use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open these attachments in the future. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "TN Grandma" wrote in message ... When I right click "Open With" doesn't appear, just "Open", which opens the
attachment then I click open and that's when I get the Message I showed in my first post. I tried going to Control Panel and opening Folder Options, but I don't understand what I suppose to do when I get there. -- Grandma Dogs have owners-- Cats have staff!!! You have to save an attachment to your HDD first. Now go to where you saved
it and Right Click | Open With. You won't get that option when trying to open it in the e-mail. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "TN Grandma" wrote in message ... I'm sorry, but I don't know what HDD stands for...I copied it to My Pictures
folder and I have no trouble viewing it there, also I don't understand why ..jpg files will open in OE and .gif will not. This something new that started happening recently, please bear with me, what I know about this machine I've learned by trial and error and at 76 yrs old I sometimes forget things that I have learned. The way the error message I receive says I don't have a program associated with the particular file and to go to Folder Options, it sounds like I don't have a program associated with .gif file. This particular e-mail has several attachments, including a .jpg file, which opened with no problem, but all the rest are .gif files, it would seem to me that I need to do something in Folder Options file to create an association for all .gif files. I know this rambles on but it's hard to explain when I don't have the tech knowledge to use the proper words etc. I really appreciate your help Bruce. -- Grandma Dogs have owners-- Cats have staff!!! HDD = Hard Drive Disk.
You need to Right Click on the paper clip and Save Attachment. Save it to any location you want and then right click on the saved gif and choose Open With. Find a program that will display the gif and then select the box: Always use the selected program to open this type of file. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "TN Grandma" wrote in message ... Bruce...Thank you so much for sticking with me, was able to do what you told
me, and can now open all the the attachments in my e-mail. Saw that you're located in California, I live much of my life there, both Southern and Northern, think I like the North best, I spent 9 years in Concord in Contra Costa County. Still have family in Orange County and I worked in Orange and LA Counties, but don't think I could drive the free ways anymore. Life is much slower here in East Tenn. and being retired I really like it, have been here for 16 years. There I go rambling again, just like to talk and sometime my cat doesn't want to listen. Thanks again and God Bless. -- Grandma Dogs have owners-- Cats have staff!!! "Bruce Hagen" wrote: HDD = Hard Drive Disk. You need to Right Click on the paper clip and Save Attachment. You're welcome. I moved out here from Westchester County, NY five years ago.
I drove trucks in heavy construction for 30 years and I thought that NY had to have the most idiotic drivers. When the file is saved to hd and double left clicked, it opens with PowerPoint no problem. However, if I click on the file from within OE6, it gives me the message that I must create a file association. I suspect I've got something messed up in OE, I just don't have a clue what it might be. Any suggestions? Cheers, jc |

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose Program. Find and choose a program that works, (Outlook Power Point Viewer?), and then check the box: Always use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open these attachments in the future. If using XP/SP2, then also see this. There is a conflict with PPS and XP/SP2.
