I have broadband and leave OE on at night to get mail.
Once a week or so, a box will be on the screen in the morning saying that OE had to shut down -- no reason given. I click the button to report it to MS, but they never say why it has happened either. I'm uisng XP. Anyone know what's going on here? |

General OE Caveats:
- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm. - Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only). - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org nrford wrote: I have broadband and leave OE on at night to get mail. When you get an error and it offers to send the error report to
Microsoft, that's generally of no immediate benefit to you. The reports go to the development staff to look for problem patterns. In some cases, the send procedure might suggest a fix, but no one will contact you with a fix. They don't even track who the error report came from. Your best chance of finding a fix is to report the problem in the newsgroups. It's important to know the Details. When you get an "Illegal Operation" or "encountered a problem" message, there is usually a Details button (In WinME press Alt/D), or a "click here" link to see the error report. When you click on the button/link, it will give a message like: XXXX caused an error in YYYY and a bunch of register nonsense or it will list the Appname XXXX and Modname YYYY. The XXXX and YYYY are important to identify the cause and solution. You can ignore the rest of the message. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "nrford" wrote in message ... I have broadband and leave OE on at night to get mail.
