My shared contacts folder in OE6 is missing. I thought this folder could not
be deleted. In the address book, I went under View. The Folder and Groups is checked. Also, in the address book if I click on File, the only options I have are New Contact and New Group. New Folder is no longer an option, it does not even show. I went to a buddies computer and he has New Folder as an option. Any idea how to get the folder option or my shared contacts folder back? Thanks |

Do you have more than one identity set up? If not, try that and see if the
problem is fixed. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Thanks. Hi Jason,
The workings of the WAB are somewhat mysterious. One condition that must be addressed first is whether Outlook is installed. If (Outlook) sharing has been invoked Outlook will be in control of the address book. In this case the normal OE Shared Contacts will not be available. Some views of the WAB do not show shared contacts. The *.wab file can become damaged. You can try renaming the default Windows Address Book. The location for the user name.wab file is given in Address Book HelpAbout. In Win XP it would likely be: C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book Where user name would be the name you're using to identify yourself in Windows. Rename user nameold.wab Close and restart OE to generate a new address book that will be opened from OE. First -- Backup the Address Book A good way to backup the address book is to export as a comma-separated values (*.csv) file. Groups do not import or export. Is MS Outlook (or MS Office) also installed?
Do you have this Registry key?... HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software \Microsoft \WAB \WAB4 If not, STOP; If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook (NB: no space) and is its value set to 1 (one)? If not, STOP; If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with Outlook, even if you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office). Change the value to 0 (zero), Shared Contacts should be available to you and all should be well. (If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and don't alter any other DWORD values.) Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is disabled. cf. http://www.insideoe.com/files/wab.htm#share http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=191946 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org Jason Inman wrote: My shared contacts folder in OE6 is missing.
