Default "Unable to choose recpoients"

Hi:

I have had this now happen twice within the last few days with Outlook
Express 6. When I tried to enter the addresses in a new email or forward I
get a message that says "Unable to choose recipients" and it will not allow
me to enter any addresses in the email. I have never had this happen before
until this week.

Anyone know the cause and corrective action that I can initiate to resolve
this issue?

Thanks,

ColTom2

When I click on "Create Mail" or "Forward" and then "To" I get this notice
"Unable to choose recipients". It will not launch my Addressbook where I can
select recipients and I get this notice.

Apologize for the misspelling of recipients in original email subject. Too
many thumbs....

Hi Pa Bear:

No MS Office or MS Outlook Express installed. Only MS Works Suite 7.0 and
Word 97 SR-1 installed. So far when I reboot the computer this problem that
I have never had before goes away.... until the next time.

Hi Pa Bear:

I had a second thought immediately after I just sent you the above reply.
Do you think that it would do any good to delete my entire addressbook and
import it back?

What happens when you try to open the Address Book using the icno on the top
menu? Does it open and is the data in it correct?

Outlook and Outlook Express are NOT the same application. You do have the
latter installed, as you're running WinXP SP2.

Don't do anything to or with your Address Book.

*Close OE* then open your message store folder
(http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain):

1. What size are the files Inbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, Deleted Items.dbx, and
Folders.dbx?

2. Go up one level What size is the store folder itself?

Store Folder* 15.9MB *This folder contains all .dbx files and I
assume that is the one you wanted.

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File
Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, (1) compact all
folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into
the new one, and then (3) delete the old one (File Identities Manage
Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is
automatically compacting your message store.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
