See Steve's reply (http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4).
For best results (don't get your hopes up), you do *not* want to compact all OE folders until you've (1) closed OE and (2) moved 'Hotmail-Sent Items.dbx' to another, non-OE folder. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org rock9995 wrote: that's right PA Bear. (sorry, got cut off early PA Bear)
yes, exactly that trying to recover the seemingly lost sent messages. yeah, once a paranoid, always a paranoid is a psychological fact...let's see..about a dozen times now both in OE and at hotmail.com and yes, the "deleted in 30 days" was up there, but I SWEAR to you those sent messages have been in there since before October!! I subscribe to hotmail plus (I think...it's $20/yr and allows 2gig storage and 25meg file sizes) that account still has the sent messages. "PA Bear" wrote in message ... I subscribe to hotmail plus (I think...it's $20/yr and allows 2gig storage
and 25meg file sizes) that account still has the sent messages. Log on to the subscribed account at www.hotmail.com and open to Sent Items: Does the same 30-day warning display there? I have no idea how you go about getting 'em all covered, but supposedly your annual subscription covers all of your MSN/Hotmail accounts (e.g., rock9995[at]hotmail.com, too). If the utility you're using can recover anything from "Hotmail-Sent Items.dbx" (once you've closed OE and moved it to another non-OE folder), do *not* drag the messages into a Hotmail-in-OE folder! To archive Hotmail messages, either Move them to another user-created Hotmail-in-OE folder or to a user-created Local OE folder. -- ~PA Bear rock9995 wrote: (sorry, got cut off early PA Bear) yes, exactly that trying to recover the seemingly lost sent messages. yeah, once a paranoid, always a paranoid is a psychological fact...let's see..about a dozen times now both in OE and at hotmail.com and yes, the "deleted in 30 days" was up there, but I SWEAR to you those sent messages have been in there since before October!! rock9995 had this to say: My reply is at the bottom of your sent message: 1. Well, thanks to Galen, I now have a free OE Viewer for later use. 2. PA Bear told me how to do user-created files to store my stuff and how the cow ate the cabbage with regard to what probaby is my reality: all sent letters lost but... 3. Thanks to Bruce Hagen, I now know how to find the location of all the OE files and make 'em visible (unfortunately the sent files weren't there anymore) 4. Steve Cochran turned me on to oehelp.com which has some good tips about what to do if all else fails. Since all else has failed (so far) I'll give it a try. Can't hurt. I WILL back up more often to dvd and THANKS OE PROFESSIONALS IN THIS NEWSGROUP. I speak for a lot of not-that-illiterate guys out there that sincerely appreciate the time you put in to try to help us out when s**t happens. Really. Thank all of you very much. rock "rock9995" wrote in message ... try getting a free dbx viewer from snapfish.com to try to find and recover lost (maybe) OE files. Steve Cochran had this to say: My reply is at the bottom of your sent message: ROFL At least it wasn't something I'd told someone to do and it'd hosed their PC. One of the reasons that I try to double check everything (and still make posts) is I don't really WANT to ever see that - mostly 'cause it'd just look bad and I'm sure someone would point it out to me. VBG Oh, yes. I really printed this thread out and saved it to DVD archive and HDD. -- Galen - MS MVP - Windows (Shell/User & IE) http://dts-l.org/ http://kgiii.info/ "I am glad of all details, whether they seem to you to be relevant or not." - Sherlock Holmes |

Yeah, that's the "first do no harm" principal that one of your colleagues
became famous for. VBG "Galen" wrote in message ...
