I asked very specific questions to get a clear understanding of the
background to your problem. Unfortunately you have not answered the
question about the Commit Charge. Also I was not suggesting you run Disk
Defragmenter but to post a copy of the report after Analyse but before
running it. You have not paid attention to how I said you were to get it.

Hope this helps.

Gerry,

Thanks for getting back but hardware situation is as it was before OE
got itself screwed up (maybe with some inadvertent help from me!) a
couple of days ago- see other posts. Will check defrag but did it
only a while ago, RAM is 1GB, (but same as before the problem). Have
20GB free (again which is more than b4 the problem) on a 60GB HDD.
Have searched for 'Vol*.txt' without success - OS is W2K if it makes
a difference!

Regards.
Bill.

Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy.

How much RAM memory? How large is your drive and how much free space?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

Hope this helps.

Hi All,

Sorted out OE in line the advice and links given in this forum. At
present only downloading NG headers while I get my head round what I
used to subscribe to. I have gone off line and compacted all
folders.

As I said all is working except the bit that says 'task x of y
completed' is very very slow, to the extent that task manager says
that OE has stopped responding, even though it hasn't. All
eventually completes but takes ages.

Fact is that OE is now 'lighter' than it ever was so I'm at a bit of
a loss. Can anyone help please?

Ta.
Bill.

Fait enough, I was going out and had read your post too quickly.

Sorted it now anyway. Google was the answer, well in part at least. Simply
unchecked the box in the Account Properties that said use LAN to connect.
Even though I do connect through the LAN this seems to have resolved the
problem. Don't know why it wasn't a problem before though.

Regards.
Bill.

Always reply to your original thread, please.

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More
at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt
to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic
Compacting is taking place.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

What do you mean always reply to my original thread? This is a different
problem to what I have posted about earlier. As for your caveats, I have
read them and implemented and they were very helpful, thank you.

However you have not read my posts properly or you would not have
responded
in the way that you have.

Regards.
Bill.
