Default Runtime error

I have a friend who has a Dell running Windows XP, the installed Verizon DSL
and MSN with the Mcafee Security. They uninstalled Norton System Works 2004.
It was working ok for several days, then they started having problems. When
the click on IE6 it starts coming up then goes away and they get the
following error message. "Run time error IE Explorer 217 at 0158eaea" Does
anyone have any suggestions on fix.

I'd first make sure all traces of NSW 2004 are gone by running the SymNRT
removal tool. See http://basconotw.mvps.org/SymRem.htm.

If that doesn't help, run a thorough check for hijackware.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

Thanks for the info, I need to mention that although Norton Security Center
still seems to be on the computer, it does not show up in the add/remove
list. Will I still be able to get it off the computer with the instructions
you sent?

Tks Ken

Please include the previous message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup.

Yes, the Symantec tools such as SymNRT (NAV 2004 and newer) and Rnav2003
(NAV 2003 and older) are specifically designed to remove such traces of
Norton products. Brian explains it all very well on his page.
