Default No Shared contact folder

In my Address Book I do not have a shared Contacts folder but the help files
say that this folder can't be deleted. Other Users on the PC have a Shared
Contacts folder. Can you please help?

Regards
Pete Harris

Default No Shared contact folder

Start Run (type in) Regedit [OK]

Navigate to the following key and expand (double-click on) it:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities

How many subkeys are found?

Is MS Office and/or MS Outlook also installed?

Default No Shared contact folder

Robert

1st expansion is
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{97EFEA23-3740-45BE-A71B-9B1E523BF17B}
next expansion is Software
next expansion is Microsoft
next expansion is Outlook Express
next expansion is 5.0 (why 5.0 when I an running OE 6.0?)
then expands to 12 subkeys 3 of which have further subkeys

MS Office 2000 is installed with all web updates in place. MS Outlook was
installed as part of Office 2000 but has never been accessed.

This is a new PC with Windows XP and my address book was imported from my
old Windows 98 PC which had the shared contact folder.

Hope with this info you can help me.
Pete

Default No Shared contact folder

1. Do you have this Registry key?...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4

If not, STOP; If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook (NB: no space) and is
its value set to 1 (one)?

If not, STOP; If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with
Outlook, even if you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office).
Change the value to 0 (zero), reboot and tell me if the Shared folder is
available now. (If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and don't
alter any other DWORD values.)

Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was
enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is
disabled.

2. Independent of the above: If you create a new identity (OE File
Identities Add new identity), does its Address Book have a Shared folder?

Brilliant - changed value to 1 and abracadabra "shared contacts" appear.

Cheers
