Default Error: OE Could not be started

Error message while running OE6

"Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open
the Outlook Express message store. Your computer may be out of memory or
your disk is full. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance
(0x80004005,183)"

I can continue to work in OE, the error displays in a separate popup window
that will be behind the other active window. Closing the error message
results in it's reappearance, either immediately or within a few seconds,
sometimes as long a minute.

Operating System is WinXP Sp2, all updates. McAfee Viruscan V.12.0 is
installed but all email intervention is turned off. Maybe I should
uninstall it completely to see if the problem goes away??? Problem started
occurring in the past week or so, McAfee has been on computer for several
years, new version for two months.

OE Inbox folder is pretty clean, only a few messages. Deleted Items folder
is empty.

Any ideas?

How much free space on the drive / partition where the Store Folder is
located and how large is the drive / partition?

It could be a corrupted folders.dbx file

Default Error: OE Could not be started

single partition drive c:\ has capacity of 120GB, 54GB free.

OE6 starts fine and actually operates. Other than being extremely annoying
the error message does not seem to prevent the use of OE.

I'll check the linked reference.

Thank you.

Default Error: OE Could not be started

Start he http://www.insideoe.com/problems/errors.htm#crash

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown
your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Default Error: OE Could not be started

Did you recently upgrade from Microsoft Office 2003 to Microsoft Office 2007?
Because I'm having the same problem and that's been my only change.

I also get the message:

Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the
Outlook Express message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your
disk is full. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance. (0x80004005,
183)

Other symptoms are the spell check is now checking in French only and French
has become the only language option. I've never worked in French before.

It also appears that the advise you're getting below is at best a shot on
the dark.
A lot of work for some other problem and I doubt it will make any difference.
I don't have a solution yet and Microsoft won't acknowledge the problem.
But I'm betting dollars to donuts it's caused by Office 2007.

Thanks PA Bear.
I wasn't asking for assistance.
I was asking Uncle Lar a question.
I was curious if he had upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007.
