Same as you would for stopping script errors in MS Internet Explorer, I
imagine. MS Outlook Express uses the MS Internet Explorer engine for
rendering scripts.

OTOH, I can't imagine why anybody would allow a mail client to run scripts,
given the penchant for worms to utilize scripts to infect computers, then
propagate themselves.

Turn off Symantec email scanning and see if it stops.

Read your mail in plain text instead of HTML. It's also safer that way.

Tools Options Read checkmark in 'Read all messages in plain text'

Ted, I tried your suggestion and it worked. Your explanation below [several
items] was helpful also. Thanks.

You can put OE into the restricted zone (Tools | Options | Security) to
block scripting as well.

See if this article helps fix it:

OLEXP: Script Error Messages When You Try to View Graphic File Attachments:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q268136/

Make sure to read the info at the bottom of the page about changes in the
slide show feature (it's a link to another article about slideshow).

Turn off email scanning in Norton. It doesn't provide any increased
protection anyway.

Default Script errors arriving in email?

Thank you all. The recommendation by Ted Zieglar solved the problem, at least
for the time being. I would prefer to know exactly what is causing the
problem and the precise solution so I could continue to receive mail in html.
There are some companies whose images I like to see without going back to
make html active for that one email, i.e., Dell, WalMart, etc. There were
other good ideas but they either didn't work or I simply decided not to go in
that direction. I think some spammers have discovered how to corrupt a script
so that their emails intentionally cause the 'script error' pop up to bring
attention to their ad. I've noticed quite a few folk are complaining of
scripting errors. Once again, to be able to find the precise cause and the
appropriate solution would be welcome. Maybe someone will come up with a
software program which does exactly that? Thanks again.

Let's talk about the script errors first. They are intended for web page
designers, not end users. If you are a web page designer you want to know if
your page contains script errors so you can fix them. Otherwise, your web
page may not render (display) correctly. End users can and may as well turn
off these displays, since there isn't anything they can do about the script
errors anyway. Moreover, the alleged script errors you are seeing were also
part of a nasty fight between Microsoft and Sun.

These days, you should not be reading email in HTML. There are too many
risks of infection. Read your email in plain text. If you receive an
HTML-formatted email from someone whose identity you can confirm, and you
know in advance why the sender formatted the email in HTML, you can very
easily display the HTML formatting with ALT+SHIFT+H.
