Default Item in inbox, but no data

Trying to help a friend fix a Outlook Express problem. She has downloaded a
message and shows it has been downloaded in the Inbox. . Later when she tries
to view again, it indicates : "message has not been downloaded" and gives a
"click here" to do so. However, nothing happens. Message shows to be in the
"in box", but it is not.

any suggestions?

How many messages are in her Inbox folder? Sent Items? Deleted Items?

[To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.]

1. Move any messages that she wants to keep out of Inbox, Sent Items, and
Deleted Items folders and into other folders you've created for archiving
(saving) such messages.

2. Write down the location of her identity's store
(http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain).

3. Close OE.

4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the store folder, find & delete the
files Outbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, and Deleted Items.dbx.

5. Compact all OE folders:
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact

To avoid such problems in the futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not shut down your machine while Windows is automatically compacting
your message store.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
