when i click on outlook express icon on desktop, usually the homepage
appears, i click on "inbox", mail is received and the inbox opens. Last week when I clicked on the icon, a window came up with some tabs at the top, normal, some shaded, unnormal (!) and nothing in the main window except an orange-type search bar. Mail is being received but I cannot get into my inbox or any other folder - any ideas. This just happened last week, I have had some suggestions, eg deleting then adding e-mail address, resetting internet explorer etc, but so far nothing seems to work. Please reply to . Many thanks |

Asked here/Answered here. [Never post or use your real address in a public

Hi
Thanks for reply - tried those suggestions; on right-clicking icon, properties, target type is "e-mail", location is "desktop", target is shaded but says "e-mail". On typing "msimn.exe" in run box, just get same outlook express window with Orange-type task bar under what should say "outlook express", "inbox" etc. However if I "go to folder" and click inbox, I can read e-mail by clicking "forward", message comes up, then I can delete, reply etc, X it and scroll up or down to the next e-mail - although when I tried to reply to some I got an error message relating to smtp.freeserve.co.uk and it asked if I wanted to use the default address to continue, which I did and all mail was sent. So I can get to folders, but no window appears, just this Orange task bar. Almost as if Internet Explorer has corrupted Outlook Express home page ???? Any further ideas ?? We still don't know your Windows version or your IE version.
Assuming WinXP SP2: 1. Delete the desktop shortcut. 2. Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete the old one (File Identities Manage Identities). 3. Open Windows Explorer to C:\Program Files\Outlook Express =this folder Right-click on msimn.exe =this file | Send to | Desktop 4. Double-click on the new desktop shortcut: What happens now? General OE Caveats: - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - Do not shut down your machine while Windows is automatically compacting your message store. - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L.ORG http://66.39.69.143/ glacier queen wrote: Hi Thanks for reply - tried those suggestions; on right-clicking icon, properties, target type is "e-mail", location is "desktop", target is shaded but says "e-mail".
