Save the dbx files to your HDD. Right click on all and remove the Read Only
attribute. Did you include Folders.dbx? If you did, open OE and import them. File | Import | Messages | MSOE6 and choose to Import from a store directory and point to where you saved them. If you did not include Folders.dbx, the import will fail and you will have to get each dbx file into OE manually. Well, I tried it.. didn't see a Folders.dbx, so tried to follow the
instructions to copy one folder at a time, but after creating the archiv1 folder in outlook express, i then went into windows explorer and tried to find that folder to delete it like they told me in "importing single dbx files into OE, and it was nowhere to be found.. went back into OE to see if it was still there... yep.. so then tried to import one folde into it's original... nope.. said there was nothing in the folder// looking at it (I copied the zip disk onto my desktop for easy access) it says there are 778KB in that folder// if I go into explorer and check the properties of the same folder it also says 779kb, but if I go into OE and open the folder, there is nothing there... Think I have probably messed it up royally... Now I am completely LOST!!! Thank you so much for trying to help me.. Guess I am just plain too old and dense!! |

Folders in outlook express are not folders in the file system
In the file system they are a single .dbx file file system folders are created and deleted in the file system, not in outlook express. I think you need to check again the instructions on the refs you were given, the problems you describe dont come from the normal sequence for importing messages from .dbx filesx -- -- -- -- -- -- Adaware http://www.lavasoft.de spybot http://www.safer-networking.org AVG free antivirus http://free.grisoft.com/ Etrust/Vet/CA.online Antivirus scan http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx Super Antispyware http://www.superantispyware.com/ Panda online AntiVirus scan http://www.activescan.com Panda online AntiSpyware Scan http://www.pandasoftware.com/virus_info/spyware/test/ Catalog of removal tools (1) http://www.pandasoftware.com/download/utilities/ Catalog of removal tools (2) http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/n...aspx?CID=40387 Trouble Shooting guide to Windows http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/ Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts file http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm links provided as a courtesy, read all instructions on the pages before use Grateful thanks to the authors/webmasters _ "Bonk" wrote in message ... I think you may have deleted the wrong file. I will reword it.
First, put all the dbx files that you are trying to get into OE on the Desktop. Rename them to anything you want. Saved Mail.dbx would be fine as an example. Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on the Desktop, (Saved Mail). Open the new folder and then close OE. Go to Windows Explorer and locate the Message Store folder for your OE identity, but don't open it. Click on the Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop in the right hand pane to the OE store folder in the left pane. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes. You can create all the folders in OE at one time, but you have to do the rest one at a time as you have to access each new folder and then close OE before proceeding. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Bonk" wrote in message ... Well, this is the pits... I am so sorry.. I just can't seem to get this
working... I thought I followed all of your directions.. went in through Windows Explorer, created the folder.. dragged it over and dumped it on OE... still nothing.. I did Copy all of the folders to desktop, so maybe I was supposed to do one folder at a time? All folders/(files??) were in one folder.. so then I tried to move just one and still nothing.. I probably have so many duplicated on here now that it isn't funny.. Guess I really am dumb.. or something... Anyway.. thank you again for your help.. sorry I wasted your time for nothing... You create the folder in Outlook Express. Then you open the folder and close
OE. /Then/ you go to Windows Explorer and drag the dbx file from the Desktop to the Outlook Express folder, (Message Store). You don't create the folder in Windows Explorer. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Bonk" wrote in message ... Well, this is the pits... I am so sorry.. ![]() From my late entry here, it seems there's a folder/file terminology mix-up. On the saved .dbx entities, there should be no folder work needed, unless you just wanted to categorize or organize the files. Just do one .dbx file at a time until successful. 1). Note the location of your OE stores location with toolsoptionsmaintenancestore folder. Cancel any change. 2). Pick one of the backup .dbx files and carefully note the name, and directory location. 3). Open/initiate OE and proceed to the local folders section in the left pane of the display. Right click on the local folders, and choose new folder. Although the term folder is used, it's not really an OS folder. In response to the folder name query, enter the name of the saved .dbx file obtained in #2. But, don't include the .dbx suffix. 4). After success with #3. close OE, and find the direct- ory defined as the store location, obtained from #1. Take note of the new .dbx file generated there in resp- onse to your create new folder request. 5). Now find the directory where you have stored the backup .dbx file that was referred to in #2. This would have also been the identical .dbx name used in the create new folder request. 6). If the file names shown from the #4 review and the #5 review are identical, you are ready to swap the files. 7). Using whatever file move technique you're comfortab- le with, copy the saved .dbx file noted in #2, to the OE store location directory noted in #1. You should absol- utely receive a confirmation to overwrite the receiving file. If you don't receive this confirmation request, the two files are unlike in name and must be corrected. 8). If successful this far, start OE once again. Proceed to the local folders section in the left pane, and see the new folder you previously created. Left click on that new folder, and your backup .dbx contents will appear. Anything else, and you'll have to start over and proceed very carefully. "Bonk" wrote in message ...
