I don't know if this is related, but I was experiencing a similar thing
trying to access a secure site (see thread below); couldn't from my desktop but I could from the laptop. In any event, Rick Rogers solved the problem, per the following; http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813444 In my case, the solution was the last one on the list. I created another user account and gained access immediately which suggests a corruption in my user profile. Hope this helps and if it does, you might want to acknowledge Rick.
