Hi Group.
Been having a problem with my IE6-OE program. Runs fine for a while, hour or so, then just freezes. I try to access a previous e-mail and get a message that it can't be opened. Had a crash on the OE program a few weeks ago and lost all e-mails in my inbox from mid April to mid November. I was able to recover most with a recovery program recommended by PA Bear called DBXpress. It worked pretty well, I got back all but the last weeks worth of e-mails. Anyway, still having the problem with the program freeze. If I exit the program and wait 30 seconds, re boot it, it runs fine for another few hours, then the problem reoccurs. Any ideas anyone? TIA, Paul |

Is the problem with the Inbox under local folders, or with a folder in a
HTTP (Hotmail/MSN) or IMAP account? If a Local folder, the problem suggests a corrupted folder. When you did the recovery, did you delete the DBX file and have OE recreate it? If messages are still accessible in the Inbox folder, do the following - Create a new mail folder (e.g. Mytemp) - Copy (not Move) the existing Inbox messages to the new mail folder (Mytemp) - Close Outlook Express - Locate the file Inbox.dbx (OE5+) in the mail directory and delete it. You can use Start, Find (or Search), Files or Folders, Inbox.dbx to find them. On Win2000 you need enable the display of Hidden or System files in the folder options and XP you need to use the advanced options to find Hidden or System files. - Open Outlook Express again. - It will create a new empty Inbox. Copy the messages back from the Mytemp folder. You can now delete the Mytemp folder. If an HTTP or IMAP account, the problem suggests a communications problem between OE and the mail server. With any type of server, the problem can be caused by your anti-virus program scanning e-mail. As long as your anti-virus software is set to scan files as they are opened, scanning e-mail as it downloads or sends is unnecessary and prone to problems. With some anti-virus (and anti-spam) programs, simply disabling the e-mail scanning function doesn't really disable it. It simply tells the program not to flag any messages. It still processes all the messages and may still cause send/receive failures. What you may need to do is uninstall the anti-virus program, then reinstall it using a custom install option and unselect the e-mail scanning component for installation. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Oyster" wrote in message news ![]() Hi Group.
