Default Need help with an error message

Thanks for the info. The link added this newsgroup to OE which is really
helpful. I couldn't find the proper news server anywhere. There is no
error code.

To PA Bear: I've compacted the folder under maintenance. There is 7MB file
usage. In the store folder my sent items total 21MB even though I've
deleted most of the messages now.

My store folder also registers 5mb for deleted messages even though the
folder in OE is empty. I think the store folder is corrupted or processes
that use it are.

Is there any way to have what appears in OE properly reflected in the store
folder?

If I move the store folder or delete a file in it sometimes no error message
appears and when I reboot and start up OE for the first time sometimes no
error message appears.

I've compacted my messages.

I've turned off my mail protection which is by Kaspersky anti virus. I have
Stopzilla installed for anti spyware, and maybe I've quarantined a file that
affected outlook express. So I restored those files but still receiving the
same error msg. I did run a scan around the time the problems started but
it may have been a day later.

I've read
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...orruption.mspx

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

It's important to know the Details. When you get "encountered a problem"
message, there is usually a "click here" link to see the error report.
When you click on the link, it will give a message that will list the
Appname XXXX and Modname YYYY. The XXXX and YYYY are important to
identify the cause and solution. You can ignore the rest of the message.

For further help

Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with OE6

For best results, use the "msnews.microsoft.com" news server for reading
and posting messages regarding help with Microsoft products. This is the
news server that most of the regulars use. You'll get more timely
messages, and miss fewer of them. News messages often take days to wander

Hi,

I have got an issue with Outlook Express 6. It brings up an error
message when I open the program, but the program functions as normal, but
with a error box in the way.

The following message is in the error box. "Outlook Express has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience." There is no error code with the message.

I first encountered the problem on the 7th of Dec, and seemed to solve it
by deleting some of the many messages in the inbox. But it resurfaced on
the 12th and deleting the messages have not helped.

I've been around the net trying to find a solution but have found nothing
relevant short of uninstalling and reinstalling. I've been on newsgroups
but can't find one dedicated to OE from my ISP for Win XP.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Please reply to my post in the future.

Have you moved anything you want to keep out of Sent Items and Deleted Items
and then deleted the contents of each folder? ...and did you then compact
*all* OE folders (http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact)? (I
can tell that you didn't do the latter.)

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

I created new folders and moved the messages into them, but the store folder
is still not updating the contents of the empty folders. I also ran
sfc/scannow in msdos but that didn't solve the error msg problem. I think I
going to have to do a reinstall of win xp.

I compacted the folders again, but I didn't touch the other options (remove
msgs, reset, delete) as I can't tell whether they apply to email messages or
newsgroup messages.

You didn't compact all OE folders. You do not compact all folders via the

Default Need help with an error message

YW. Adhere to the caveats I posted earlier and you won't have to worry
about it again.

Thanks for explaining the 2nd time. I did actually follow the
instructions
before but I forgot I'd done that.

The errors gone but I don't know how. Thanks for your help.

You didn't compact all OE folders. You do not compact all folders via
the
Maintenance tab. See http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact
(posted in my last reply).

I created new folders and moved the messages into them, but the store
folder
is still not updating the contents of the empty folders. I also ran
sfc/scannow in msdos but that didn't solve the error msg problem. I
think
I
going to have to do a reinstall of win xp.

I compacted the folders again, but I didn't touch the other options
(remove
msgs, reset, delete) as I can't tell whether they apply to email
messages
or
newsgroup messages.

Thanks for your help.

To PA Bear: I've compacted the folder under maintenance. There is 7MB
file usage. In the store folder my sent items total 21MB even though
I've
deleted most of the messages now.

Please reply to my post in the future.

Have you moved anything you want to keep out of Sent Items and Deleted
Items and then deleted the contents of each folder? ...and did you
then
compact *all* OE folders
(http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact)? (I can tell that
you didn't do the latter.)

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to
local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline".
More
at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not
attempt
to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic
Compacting is taking place.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Thanks for the info. The link added this newsgroup to OE which is
really
helpful. I couldn't find the proper news server anywhere. There is
no
error code.

To PA Bear: I've compacted the folder under maintenance. There is 7MB

usage. In the store folder my sent items total 21MB even though I've
deleted most of the messages now.

My store folder also registers 5mb for deleted messages even though
the
folder in OE is empty. I think the store folder is corrupted or
processes
that use it are.

Is there any way to have what appears in OE properly reflected in the
store
folder?

If I move the store folder or delete a file in it sometimes no error
message
appears and when I reboot and start up OE for the first time sometimes
no
error message appears.

I've compacted my messages.

I've turned off my mail protection which is by Kaspersky anti virus. I
have
Stopzilla installed for anti spyware, and maybe I've quarantined a
file
that
affected outlook express. So I restored those files but still
receiving
the
same error msg. I did run a scan around the time the problems started
but
it may have been a day later.

I've read
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...orruption.mspx

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

It's important to know the Details. When you get "encountered a
problem"
message, there is usually a "click here" link to see the error
report.
When you click on the link, it will give a message that will list the
Appname XXXX and Modname YYYY. The XXXX and YYYY are important to
identify the cause and solution. You can ignore the rest of the
message.

For further help

Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with OE6
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...tlooke xpress

You will find out information about issues affecting Outlook Express
5/6
at:

http://home.attbi.com/~jimpickering/
http://www.insideoe.com/
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_oe.htm

For best results, use the "msnews.microsoft.com" news server for
reading
and posting messages regarding help with Microsoft products. This is
the
news server that most of the regulars use. You'll get more timely
messages, and miss fewer of them. News messages often take days to
wander
from server to server, and often get lost.

Hi,

I have got an issue with Outlook Express 6. It brings up an error
message when I open the program, but the program functions as
normal,
but
with a error box in the way.

The following message is in the error box. "Outlook Express has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience." There is no error code with the message.

I first encountered the problem on the 7th of Dec, and seemed to
solve
it
by deleting some of the many messages in the inbox. But it
resurfaced
on
the 12th and deleting the messages have not helped.

I've been around the net trying to find a solution but have found
nothing
relevant short of uninstalling and reinstalling. I've been on
newsgroups
but can't find one dedicated to OE from my ISP for Win XP.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Tim
