I tried to copy two files of an address book from the old computer
My name.wab My name.wab~ into Microsoft \ address book\ of new computer. When OE was opened, it showed the list of addresses but I could not see anything under Create Mail \To..... It is empty. Apparently, the newly copied wab did not work. Please tell me how to fix this problem. TIA. Jorge |

The WAB~ is a backup file and not needed to be transferred.
See The Windows Address Book (WAB) http://www.insideoe.com/files/wab.htm The problem is likely that on the old PC, you had the contacts under the identity, rather than the shared contacts. On the new Pc you would have a new identity, even if it has the same identity name (e.g. Main). You can open the address book outside of OE and move the contacts to the shared contacts, then open the address book within OE and move them from the shared contacts to the current identity. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Jorge Cervantes" wrote in message ... Do you still have access to the old machine, or a copy of the Address Book?
Open the Address Book | File | Export | Address Book (wab) either to a CD, or another location on your HDD and burn from there. Copy the CD to a folder on the new machine. Right click on it | Properties and remove the Read Only attribute. Open the Address Book | File | Import | Address Book (wab) and point to where you saved it. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Jorge Cervantes" wrote in message ... What you said makes sense. I have never paid attention to shared or
non-shared. That was the problem. What I did was I simply copied My name.wab (hidden file) from one computer to other. Where can I figure out or change "shared" or non-shared contacts? That would solve my problem. Thanks. Jorge "Michael Santovec" wrote in message ... The WAB~ is a backup file and not needed to be transferred. Just open the address book outside of OE. Double click the WAB file.
You should then see all the addresses. Then click View, and make sure the Folders and Groups is checked. You should now see the folders in the left pane. At that point you can drag addresses between folders. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Jorge Cervantes" wrote in message ... What you said makes sense.
