all inbox files changed to "unread" mode

Start here. Create a local folder and move all the mail from the Inbox to
that folder and then compact your folders.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: FileWork Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar).
FileFolderCompact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting

Reboot and see what the mail looks like in the new folder. If that is OK,
send a test e-mail to yourself and see what that looks like in the Inbox.
If the problem still exists, the Inbox may be damaged, but we'll deal with

IN box have converted to UNREAD only this time they give no indication
that there is or isn't an attachment associated with the letters (no
little paper clip).

Is there anyway I can "convert them back" to where my inbox was before
this latest debacle?
