Okaaay, Bruce, I did everything you said and
The only difference is that now there is a "0 KB" in the "size" column. The letters I know that I never opened are still in Boldface type and the ones that I have opened (most of them) are not but ALL have the "closed envelope" icon associated with all of them. The old letters sit in a newly-created file called "new inbox folded" I sent a test message--with an attachment-- to myself and it's in the inbox in a normal way. anyway I can see my old letters with the "opened" icon and what size files were associated with them? I must confess that I am stumped. This is a problem I have not had the

One solution is for me to systematically open all 1100 of my messages and
download then one...by.....one.... Thanks for trying to help me Bruce. It sounds as if folders.dbx is messed up. Try going to File | Identities
and set up a new Identity and verify you don't have the same problems there. Then use File | Import | Messages and point to the older Identity and see if that fixes it. steve "rock9995" wrote in message ... Getting ready to import messages into my new identity, it says "import from
main identity" and I balked because I have this vision of everything in my inbox/sent/and other folders in my main identity transferring over to the new identity--which I don't necessarily want to use--and somehow something getting lost in the process. Can you create a new folder in your old identity that you can stand to lose?
Copy some messages to it and then follow the instructions below for restoring a folder. In Windows Explorer, click on the dbx file and drag it to the Desktop. Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on your desktop. ***Copy a message from any folder to the new one. You MUST do this.*** Close OE. Go back to Windows Explorer and Click Desktop and drag the folder from the Desktop to the OE store folder that you clicked on to reveal the .dbx files. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? It should give you the option to choose which folders to import. If it
doesn't, don't import from an identity but from a directory and then it will give you that option. steve "rock9995" wrote in message ...
