Default all inbox files changed to "unread" mode

I'm not sure what I did (THIS time) but in OE all my opened emails in my IN
box have converted to UNREAD only this time they give no indication that
there is or isn't an attachment associated with the letters (no little
paper clip).

Is there anyway I can "convert them back" to where my inbox was before this
latest debacle?

thanks in advance OE Pros...

Start here. Create a local folder and move all the mail from the Inbox to
that folder and then compact your folders.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: FileWork Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status
Bar).
FileFolderCompact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting
is completed.

Reboot and see what the mail looks like in the new folder. If that is OK,
send a test e-mail to yourself and see what that looks like in the Inbox. If
the problem still exists, the Inbox may be damaged, but we'll deal with that
later.

Okaaay, Bruce, I did everything you said and

The only difference is that now there is a "0 KB" in the "size" column.

The letters I know that I never opened are still in Boldface type and the
ones that I have opened (most of them) are not but ALL have the "closed
envelope" icon associated with all of them.

The old letters sit in a newly-created file called "new inbox folded"

I sent a test message--with an attachment-- to myself and it's in the inbox
in a normal way.

anyway I can see my old letters with the "opened" icon and what size files
were associated with them?

I must confess that I am stumped. This is a problem I have not had the
pleasure of seeing before. Keep checking back. I'm sure someone else will
have a suggestion.

Default all inbox files changed to "unread" mode

One solution is for me to systematically open all 1100 of my messages and
download then one...by.....one....

Thanks for trying to help me Bruce.

I wonder if anyone else knows how to fix or...at least how to prevent it
from happening again.

It sounds as if folders.dbx is messed up. Try going to File | Identities
and set up a new Identity and verify you don't have the same problems there.
Then use File | Import | Messages and point to the older Identity and see if
that fixes it.

I had thought of that, but it wouldn't explain the missing paper clips, or
the Closed envelopes when the message had been read.

Not sure on the Env Icon? Maybe he was reading all in plain text previously
and he changed that view - thus losing the Rich text mail icon?
Let's see?
