Default Cannot send Email after upgrade of to XP Pro

Has anybody seen this error message after new install of XP Pro.
When I try to send email I get an error message:

No Sender specified, Check News account configuration....

This happens if I use an entry from the address book or type
the sender in manually.

Thanks

Larry

Is OE your default Mail Client?

Are you attempting to send a New Message or Reply To (Sender) or Forward a
newsgroup post?

Default Cannot send Email after upgrade of to XP Pro

I think that OE is my default Mail Client, but will double check to make sure.

It seems to happen in both situations, New message or Reply to

thanks

Larry

As you do not post here using the OE newsreader, I'll assume the problem
occurs in New, Reply To or Forwarded email messages.

Tools Accounts Mail: Do you have any accounts listed here?

From which earlier Windows version did you upgrade to WinXP? Is the machine
fully up-to-date at Windows Update?

Default Cannot send Email after upgrade of to XP Pro

OE is setup as the Default Message application.

Yes, I have the Mail account that I exported and saved before I upgraded,
then imported after the upgrade. Receiving e-mails is OK, Just New, and
Reply To
seem to not be working.

I had XP - Home before the upgrade, but did not re-format my hard drive before
upgrading to XP - Pro (which I relize now that I should have done it) ( I
did a new
install for the upgrade)

Before the upgrade XP - Home was not upto date.
After the upgrade to XP - Pro, I have not checked yet
(I am on a dialup which usually only gets 24kbps if I am lucky, rural living)

Thanks

Larry

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File
Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages from
the old Identity before deleting it (File Identities Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

....and get the machine fully up-to-date at Windows Update ASAP!

SENDER is you, not the person you are sending to.

OLEXP: "The Message Could Not Be Sent. Unable to Post Message, No Sender
Was Specified" When You Post to a Newsgroup
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=271742
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=271375
If the name and e-mail address seem OK, retype and click APPLY. If you
still have problems, delete the news account, restart OE and set it up
again.

OK, I will try the steps listed when I get home, but it seems a little strange
to get the error when I am trying to send an email, not post to a newsgroup.

thanks

Larry
