After using Add/Remove Windows components to remove FAX services (only
checked the box next to Fax services), noticed that Outlook Express and Internet Explorerer were missing. To get them back, I reran Add/Remove Windows components - checking everything. IE and Outlook express came back, but haven't worked the same since. I use Windows XP with SP2. IE version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr and Outlook Express version 6.00.2900.2180 (xpsp-sp2-rfm). The problem is - if I start IE first, I get signed onto the internet okay, but if I immediately then try to open Outlook Express my computer hangs up. If I wait about 5 minutes, then Outlook Express will open. If I use Outlook Express to sign onto the internet first and then try to immediately use IE, the computer will hang up. But 5 minutes later IE will open up. I used to be able to access both IE and OUtlook Express within seconds of each other. What can I do to correct the problem? Expand AllCollapse All |

Open IE, open OE, does it take 5 minutes to open? If no then I dunno? If yes then, well, someone will be along shortly to tell you how to remove Windows Messenger without OE burping. -- Galen - MS MVP - Windows (Shell/User & IE) http://dts-l.org/ http://kgiii.info/ "We approached the case, you remember, with an absolutely blank mind, which is always an advantage. Also try going to Start | Program Access and defaults and set IE and OE as
default. That might repair some of the problems. This didn't help. Another symptom of my problem is that once either IE or OE
hangs up most everything else I try to do also gets hung up sort of in line behind IE or OE. Then when the system unlocks everything comes up at once and my screen is filled with windows. I have tried setting my program access defaults many times and I don't think
it is working. When I first open the window the Custom setting is selected and everything has "Use my Current program" selected. I go in and choose all the microsoft products including IE and OE and click OK. Next a screen comes up that applies the changes and the window closes. Then when I go back into the set program accesss defaults it is back to "use my current programs". Then I tried selecting "Microsoft Windows". Once again the changes get applied and the widnow closes. But when I reopen it "Custom" is selected. I can't seem to get it changed. I just finished restarting my computer and the startup hung on the "WELCOME" screen. So I did "CTRL-ALT-DEL" and the screen immediately went to my desktop. Then I started IE and it came up normally. I was able to go immediately to the microsoft suppost newsgroup page. I've been on the microsoft support page for about 10 minutes, so I thought I would try starting OE. It came up instantly. It's beginning to seem to me that if I wait 5 mins. after I start IE before I start OE then everything is fine. But it never used to be this way. Read your response. Went to the website and have placed it in favorites. I
use Symantec Antivirus and the virus definitions are updated. I use Ad-aware and today removed 23 objects.I do delete cookies and temporary internet files periodcaly. Trying to remove a Malware seems like a lot to trouble. If I don't find a simpler solution, I just may continue to wait 5 minutes before opening OE since everything else is working fine. Thanks for the response. "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE" wrote: "Bob Fletcher" wrote in message ... I have tried setting my program access defaults many times and I don't think it is working. Have decided today that this may be an internet connection problem. I just
restarted my computer. Then started my internet connection by going to START - Settings - Network Connections - PVNS ( My ISP). After PVNS said it was connected, I clicked on the IE icon in the taskbar and got the hourglass next to the cursor for a second, but no IE starting. I then clicked on the OE icon in the taskbar - got the hourglass next to the cursor for a second, but no OE starting. I then tried opening the task manager, but got nothing. Then 4 minutes later - BOOM - 3 windows ( IE, OE & task manager) seem to open simutaneously. I've been online now for an hour and a half and have had no problems. If you are using anything by Symantec, I'd suggest disabling all of it and
see if that doesn't fix the problem. Certainly you need to do this: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 steve "Bob Fletcher" wrote in message ... Read your response.
