I've noticed for a while now, OE often locks up opening the first email.
Opens fine after killing OE and relaunching. I have always done all the right things to maintain OE, so assume it's some sort of corruption. Thanks, Jeff |

General OE Caveats:
- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place. - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Jeff N. wrote: I've noticed for a while now, OE often locks up opening the first email. Thanks, I do all the other things, so imagine it may be the new Nod Security
Suite I've been testing out. I have always disabled email scanning by AV proggies, but haven't messed with many settings in this one yet. Thanks Jeff "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote in message ... I have always done all the right things to maintain OE, so assume it's some sort of corruption. Don't store messages in the Inbox. It is the folder most apt to be corrupted. As soon as you read them move them to user created folders. Then compact the Inbox regularly. Go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder and write down where OE is storing its data. Close OE. Go there with Windows Explorer and move (not copy) Inbox.dbx to an empty Windows folder. With Win2K, WinXP and Win2K3 it will be a hidden file. You can use either of these tools to extract the messages from the old DBX file: DBXtract ($7): http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/ although this tool is faster and better: DBXpress: ($25) http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx Do NOT extract to the desktop! With a large file this can take a long time, so let it keep running. The messages can be dragged from a Windows folder back into an OE folder in OE's Folder List. -- Frank Saunders MS-MVP IE,OE/WM www.fjsmjs.com Do not reply with email |

Thanks Frank, I think it may be the AV scanning. Just kinda curious if
there may be any other causes. Thanks, Jeff "Frank Saunders MS-MVP IE,OE/WM" wrote in message ... "Jeff N." wrote in message ...
